Essential Questions:
·
What happens to the characters as they are
transformed from print to the screen?
·
Does three-dimensionality have an effect on how
characters are perceived? Are they, in a sense, more alive because we can
physically see them in motion?
·
When a novel is considered for a film, how do
directors and filmmakers decide what part of this human condition appears in
the movie version?
·
Which scenes are in and which are out? Does this
selective process hurt the storyline?

THINK: PRE SCREENING TASK: WHICH SECTIONS of 1984 WOULD TRANSLATE TO FILM BETTER? WHICH CHARACTERS? WHICH THEMES? WHY?
HOW WOULD YOU REPRESENT SETTING/TONE IN FILM?
Tuesday and Thursday 14th/16th: Screening Focus: Create a Venn Diagram of note taking during film comparing/contrasting literary elements of Orwell's novel to the the film version. Apply film language. (see link above)
Monday October 20th:
Pair-Share Post film screening Group Work: Using your concept maps and your venn diagrams, come up with a short oral presentation on why you feel the author and director's cut were different and similar for Character/Tone/Setting/Theme/Point of View/Style/Narrative. Do some group research into film maker's choices to add this to your thinking.
